1960 International Harvester House Car Camper on Ebay

Very unique. The stove looks to be a marine one. Makes me wonder if this is a home built unit mounted on a Row Binder truck (IH) and not a factory build?

The description says it was custom built by a boat builder so basically, it is a home built unit. They want $15k for it which seems very high.

A perfect fit for WAL MART. You should feel right at home.

I have a feeling that anyone who buys is it going to dump the camper and just enjoy that pretty truck.

That was my thought but I have no idea where you would find a pickup box to replace whatever that thing is behind the cab and under the camper.

Wow, you guys are pretty rough on a 53 year old vintage truck and home-made camper. :B

The styling takes some getting used to, but I suspect most people would be impressed and appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this rig. It's been in several vintage camper shows and has been seen and written about many times.

Just one of the many appreciative comments written about it that gives some detail of it's history:

"This thing is one of a kind. It was made by the original owner between 1960 and 1963 who was a professional boat builder. He used it as his personal camper during his road trip to Alaska via the Alaskan highway. Everything here is hand made by a master craftsman down to the wood burning stove and ice box out of wood, aluminum and fiberglass. The tilted roof gave it well over 7 feet of standing head room towards the rear and all of it is in perfect working condition. The builder passed away in the 1970s and the truck was kept in the family the entire time until 2010 when the current lucky owners took possession of this magnificent gem. It is hard to put a value on something like this as there is nothing else to measure it up against. It is probably not for everyone but most can certainly appreciate the uniqueness and craftsmanship that went into designing and building this camper."

The truck bed is highly customized to fit the camper, and if you look closely you can see that the side panels are removable and cover a spare tire on each side. Fender skirts aren't as popular today as they were back then, but they did provide some aerodynamic qualities to the truck.

The woodwork inside the camper is what you would expect from a master boat-builder: beautiful and meticulous. I would love to see this in person, myself. Is it worth 15K? I don't know. How do you attach a value to something as unique as this? All of the pictures I've found leave me with the impression that both the truck and camper are in very good shape, and are worth more than their "book" value. To the right buyer, they may be priceless.

OK, I missed this on my first reading of the description on ebay:

"he added a non driving axle hidden under a long skirted body with free spinning wheels to aid when high centering, also doubled as the spare!"

All I comprehended the first time I read it was the part about the spares. That's really pretty clever. I wonder where he got that idea, and I wonder how it worked out?
