2013 explorer and corrosion on hood ??

If the corrosion is the result of rock chips, it's not covered but this problem is under the paint. A magnet will tell you it's a steel hood.

I'm surprised, the hood on my 2002 explorer is aluminum, and I believe the fenders are as well.

No corrosion on my hood.

I think its a weld on aluminum issue myself

Put the beers or what ever down for awhile then reread his post. Here's a clue, he is going to "boycott Ford" because of their pisspoor customer service. Not fixing the hood with a defect! Heck he should be happy it lasted that long! I drove a 1992 Ford F-150 off the dealer's lot (was a lemon lawsuit replacement) on a friday and sunday on the way to my parents house the paint on the hood started flying off! Great Ford QC right there. Was told it would be over six months before the body shop could fix it. Due to the long list of trucks in front of me for the same reason!

Just an update to my earlier post: Finally got in touch with the Ford rep today. She offered to pay $500 toward the cost of fixing the hood, which she told me would be a total of $780, and that I would have to pay the remaining balance of $280. (The body shop manager at the dealership told me he would repair it for $600, so don't know why the sudden increase in price).

Anyway I told her I was not happy about that and felt Ford should be responsible for the entire amount since it is an obvious manufacturing defect. I pointed out the numerous complaints on several websites about this problem and that the body shop manager told me it is a common problem on these Explorers. I also reminded her of Ford's motto of "Quality is job #1" and asked her if this is what Ford considers "Quality." I also asked her if I should expect a vehicle produced by Ford to start deteriorating after two years??

She then said she would increase her offer to $600 toward the cost of the repair, but under no circumstances would they pay the full price. So I guess I have to accept their offer, as she reminded me in a rather snooty tone that they didn't have to give me anything. I did tell her though I was going to file a complaint with the NHTSA and the Better Business Bureau Auto Line. I don't think anything will come of it, but at least this problem will go on record---and who knows, if they get enough complaints, maybe something good will come of it!

I did file the complaint with the NHTSA online today, now just waiting to get the form for the BBB Auto Line.

More than likely a paint issue not the hood material. I had a F150 with an aluminum hood and zero paint issues in over 10 years. Outside 100% of the time no garage. Is there something unique about the Explorer hood? Could be a manufacturing defect in a run of vehicles.

I have lingering thoughts of my 1990 GMC Sierra with the paint falling off the hood a sq ft at a time. The gray primer stuck good, the paint not so good

Seems dumb they will not cover this. I don't know if this is actually a corrosion issue or a paint/primer problem. I had a 1989 Chevy S-10 I bought new when I got back from Germany. Within two years the paint began to peel from bad primer bonding. Chevy stepped up and repainted the entire truck for free since it was a common issue.
