7 pin extension?

Howdy all. Can't seem to find just the right product and figured I'd ask before buying pieces and making my own.

When I added my WDH, the 7 pin power cord for the trailer barely reaches the socket on the truck. Has to be routed just the right way to reach. So far, it hasn't popped loose, but I figured it's a matter of time.

Anyway, I only need about 4 to 6 inches. I'd be happy with anything 2 feet and under. But all I can find is 3 foot extensions.

Does such a beast exist? Thanks for any help
  • go to a parts store buy a new 7 pin cord and male end and build the cord what ever lenght you want. or just buy a male and female 7 pin plug and build your extension. pretty easy fix.

I got my 7-way replacement cable from ETRAILER.COM... Seems like it came in only two lengths...

There will probably be two types called 7-Way round pins and 7-Way flat blades

Be sure to get the correct one..

    Might check with them..

If I was doing this and come up with 6-inches short I would replace the whole cable with a longer cable and the proper-molded end on it. These 7-way cables all terminate in an electrical junction box on the trailer side and should be a color-for-color wire cable lead replacement routine.

Adding an ADAPTER to me would be introducing another easy failure point. I have enough of those already without adding more...

ETRAILER has a video of this repair routine on-line.

  • 7 pin replacement cords come in 6' and 8' lengths so you could replace the cord for about $25.00 from many on line vendors. This keeps from having extra connections that could get dirty or separate.
I think 6' is the standard OEM. Randu
  • I needed a short extension too. I purchased the longer one, and then zip tied it into a loop. It works great.
