My alignment guy of 35+ years set me straight. Re adjust factory 1/4 toe to 1/32 to 1/64 and keeping tires rotating the same only move fronts side to side. This means dismounting tires from wheels and the inside of the tires will be showing. No matter you will always get some outside edge tire wear simply from turning. This method evens that out.
20k on these fronts.
Yes you “can” do that and yes it’s helpful in some scenarios. Like when we lived in the mountains. We’d scrub the outside treads pretty quick running hiway speed super curvy roads. About halfway through tire wear, swap em inside out would extend tire life. Assuming rotations were done right up to that point.
Driving primarily where the roads are easier on tires, I’m amazed at how little tires wear up here in wa.
To that point, one of our cars has staggered size directional tires. No rotating allowed without turning them inside out. That car never gets rotated. And tires last pretty long.
Again, there are many different scenarios each requiring a different approach to maximize tire life, and anyone stuck with one ole tried n true method either doesn’t get out much and is driving the same rig they were back in the day, or they don’t understand tire wear and how to help control it.
