A question for Bigfoot oweners

Hey just joined up. I live in Calgary AB. I bought a 1990 9.5C and am in the process of gutting and replacing all the wood inside. I have removed 550 lbs of extra wood that had been nailed over the factory stuff.

I will post up some pics of the progress soon.

One question for those here that have had, or do have Bigfoot campers.

What the heck is the little door for driver side bottom. I found it buried under some panelling (someone nailed over factory) I removed?
  • I'm not a Bigfoot owner but is it possibly a door that would open into the truck bed to give access to the space in front and behind the wheel well when the camper is loaded?
  • ....you may want to PM a member on this forum going under name: 54suds

He has re-built a number of Bigfoot truck campers, and is considered highly knowledgeable of this brand.

  • I have a 1988 11.5 foot 1500 series. I have a little door as you described on the passenger side, below the oven area. As DWeikert posted, it provides access to the truck bed space in front and behind the wheel.

  • DWeikert & Wayne nailed it

silver Thanks but I'm far from an expert :?
  • Not a Bigfoot owner but can't wait to see the remodel pictures. Good luck with your project.
  • That's sort of what I thought it was. I am thinking it might be a good spot to mount the batteries in the truck bed. If there is enough space. Oh that reminds me, where is the battery supposed to go? The last owner just had them sitting on the floor beside the water tank
  • If you posted some photos of the inside, we might be able to give you a few pointers.

My 1988 Bigfoot had no provisions for batteries. It did not have a battery charger, converter only. You connect a battery to the converter, it would fry the battery. I added a 55 amp Iota charger/converter and a single AGM battery inside the TC. I tried the batteries in the wheel wells, and did not like it for several reasons.

This is where I installed my AGM battery. It has been there since about 2006. There is room for two AGMs, stacked. I have needed but one.

    I mounted the Iota here.

I also added a TriMetric and solar, and ran the wires here.
