My son is looking to buy a second hand truck. Won't be doing a lot of trailer towing, just needs a truck to bop around for awhile. Needs it for about a year or so. He found a 93 2 wheel drive, cummins. About 250 k. New tires,new auto tranny, bed cap,8ft bed,good shape all way around. Guy wants $3600.00 firm. Runs great. My son figures if he keeps it for a year, it will make it easier to move his goods and tools around and then sell it. Being its a Diesel he figures that he can find a buyer and get most of his money back. I think its too much money but what do you guys think its worth? If you look it up its not worth alot.

Well if the trans is new and the truck is in good shape that's a great price. Take it to a shop and have them go all over it before you buy it. Never a good idea to do it yourself, the rose colored glasses thing don't you know.Don

Honestly it sounds high (seen many listed around $2,500)but if the condition is good it could be worth it. It's worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. Heck, they still want about $20,000 for a 10 year old truck.

If it isn't some rusted out hulk, that sounds like a great price. Look around..you won't get much for any less...B.O.

Tranny is worth 1/2 of what he is asking for it. If no rust and it checks out, buy it.

Thank you all for the responses.TXiceman, bopping is the same as cruising. Guess I am showing my age. LOL. The tranny was done 6 months ago,still under warranty.

How new is the tranny would be my first question, otherwise $3500 sounds like a bargain to me. OBTW we have plenty of 12 valve Cummins around here still on the roads rust and all :B

I never did figure out how to "bop" in a truck. I cruised in one, but never bopped.

Based on Kelly Blue Book price for a 94 in excellent conditional is valued at $3100.00. So price is high.
Now as I make my living as a buyer any item is worth what somebody is willing to pay.
If taken care of 250K miles on the 6 cyl. cummins should be no problem. If a "new trans" that's good news.
If your comfortable with it buy it.
I would give him $2K. but I'm the guy that spent $7K for a 99 F550 with 228K miles and a trans rebuilt in 2008. Paid $2K a year later for a ford reman trans when the rebuilt trans failed. Still into it for less than it's valued.

With a new trans and tires, probably worth it. And yes, he will likely have no trouble selling it in a year or two and getting most of that money back. The early 12-valve Cummins trucks are still highly sought-after. And that's pretty low miles for a 20-year-old Cummins.

Its a Dodge Club Cab. I thought I put that in there. Well I did put Cummins! LOL. It may be old and the paints a little thin,(no rust). I just didnt think something that old was worth it,but seems Im wrong.
