Your current needs do not require a diesel or a 1 ton truck. I would take a look at a used 3/4 ton gasser since you expect to haul more than you have now. It will eat gas. You may also want to look at used Chevy 3/4 ton trucks with the Duramax diesel. I am reluctant to recommend the Ecoboost since you say you want more capability in the future.
