We've got a '06 Lance 1181 that when not used sits inside a rv garage. Over the years I've done some limited re-caulking where caulk appeared to shrink or pull back. But I'm thinking of having (paying for) a complete factory re-caulk. Have any of you done this and were the results worth the cost to you. I know many have done the whole job themselves, but my caulking skills are less than satisfactory IMO. Also the job of caulk removal is a PIA! Your opinions and suggestions welcome. Thanks.

You'd get the benifit of inspection too. Yes... go for it. Very good people to deal with.We have had all kinds of stuff done there... someone hit our TC in MississippiWe like the area... (eat at El Torio in Palmdale... about 5 minutes from the factory.)THe Customer Service Center has electric hook ups and you'd have the use of your TC at night... they'd do your work during the day.They have a dump station inside the fenced area...Sleepy

Anyone you talk with will be able to help you. The whole staff do their jobs well. The Lance Camper phone number is 1 661 949 3322, Have your serial number handy (It's on the nameplate beside the entrance door) All 2006/1181 might not be exactly the same... maybe a different brand applaince... or even a "fix" of some sort. They'll have a record of your exact camper.You will schedule a certain day... you might want to show up the afternoon before and check in... stay there that night so that you will be ready when they get to work the next morning.... I have found them to be prompt.Even though you have your TC stored in a protected enviroment you might have some damage to the skirts or ???, it should be repaired too. Mike Williams is in charge of the Customer service center now. He was already there when we last visited in 2009. He is focused on doing a good job.Chet

I do not have a lance I have a 07 winter creek and went to a rally in Gettysburg then to Michigan on unrelated family business, when I got to the factory and showed them the problems the warranty manager said that the camper should have never left the factory with the problems I showed them, and that the slides that they now install have a brake attached because after a few years they will creep in a few centimeters. long story short they repaired everything even things I had never noticed and because they had started using reico jacks a few years ago he gave me one new jack and four new motors and the caulk job was also thrown in they spent two days making my camper like new and the bill had a no charge at the bottom. Hope you have the same luck as I did, the only reason I went there was a small problem with the slide, probably never happen again but I was not looking for something for nothing but it turned out that way

A way to pressure test... for people that are worried but can't make it to Lancaster

make up a bucket of soapy water... soap the camper

use a leaf blower and an adapter with a foam seal pressed up againest an open window or vent

watch for bubbles

Talked to Lance Service Mgr today about re-caulk. He said what they prefer to do is a pressure test to look for leaks. They generally redo areas that show a need or leaks rather than the whole unit. So the cost depends on what is in need of repair.

I just visited Lance service this past week to have them look at a problem with my 845. When I first called, they said they couldn't schedule an "inspect and quote" day for over a week. Never heard of that policy from any place for just a quote. When I explained I would be passing close by returning home, they said to drop by.

When I dropped by, the Service Mgr was out for a couple of days. Someone else gave me a ball park quote and said a repair date would be 3 to 4 weeks out. I'm going to wait until after the holidays.

Glad to know they have a place to stay in your camper at night. Also I second the Fairgrounds RV Park. Nice place (if you like asphalt) and very reasonable rates for a hookup site.

Last time I checked it was about $1K for a complete re-do. Not cheap, but when you consider the labor to remove the old, prep and re-caulk I think it's worth considering. As Sleepy reported they also inspect for other possible issues that exist or may be developing. I'm going to give a call tomorrow and I'll report back with details.

How much does this "re-calk" cost? I am just getting back into a truck camper and was not aware that such a service exists, or is needed.

I had the factory look at my slide a 2002 1161.
they said it needed adjusting so Dec. 2nd I will be there to get that done.

The main facility is on Venture..not for repairs

they have another Large repair facility that is two blocks down on Exchange Place...so set your GPS for the exchange place location.

Lance stays booked up so call in advance to setup your appointment.

I recommend "if" you are looking for a campground...Antelope Valley fairgrounds...full hookups for 20 a night.

I was stationed at Edwards AFB 47 years ago..Lancaster was a sleepy little town back then...it has really grown..did not get to Palmdale
Rosamond had a gas station and a trailer park..now it is busy too.

The winter creek is made by palomino the last year this unit was made was 2010 they now mostly make real lite and pop up truck campers they have some issues that could have been made better but the factory treated me better than I could believe it was out of warranty

Devildog, glad to hear your issue was resolved. I'm actually interested in the re-caulk as a age related preventative maintenance action. I have not really had any issues of major concern with our Lance 1181 since delivery in Oct. 05. Again it is a '06 model that we ordered out with the options we wanted. At any rate we have been quite happy overall and it has served us very well. I just know that at some point the caulking, like some other time limited things needs to be renewed.
