Pulled into the wash and thought, I don't need to put it in 4wd just yet..200yards down the road decided to stop for lunch and then put it in 4wd...It just won't engage!!I got to dig a swimming pool in the desert5 hours later I had enough and called my bro who came to the rescue RESCUE VIDEOfinally got to our campsite for the weekend and could relax thinking of adding some rescue platforms to the gear list, any suggestions?also, after 5 hours of my camper being totally out of level, my fridge shut down and took the whole weekend to get back in the 30's, another reason to get a compressor fridge.

Right sized winch, bury-able anchor, being certain to lock in 4x4 before you leave the pavement ;). Also, deflators and a compressor so you can drop your tire pressure to help you float out of loose situations like that.Auto-lock type hubs require the wheels to turn and the rig to travel a bit before they fully lock up. Oh, and always travel the back country with a second team if possible.

I do remember not going all the way up June Wash because of deep sand, therefore having to hike further to the viewpoint at the end.DRW in low 4 is best for sand. My pre-Tiger had DRW, which mostly I did not like, but I miss it in sand. Tiger is SRW, and low 4 has floated me out of several places.But hey, at least you got rescued and the camper stayed whole and on the truck this time!

Can't tell if you lowered the pressure on the tires it helps.Practice makes perfect--- take it out and practice getting stuck and unstuck.

Wondering whether you are still relying on the Ford vacuum system of 4 wheel drive. After paying and paying to fix it, I put on some Warn hubs and now it works when I put them in every time.

Even with the auto lockers you can just twist the dial on the hub from auto to lock for 4wd. I do that whenever the surface looks iffy. Then all the dash switch is doing is engaging the front driveshaft to the transmission.

Probably could have gone down to 20 psi which would have helped a lot more too. Though without 4wd, any pressure was probably a lost cause.

Did you ever figure out why the 4wd didn't engage?

Last and most important, how pleased are you with the BFG AT K/Os? Are they wearing well with the heavy camper weight?

Just so you understand... With the Warn Hubs you have to get out and manually engage each hub, and then remember to take them off engaged when you are done. But, having said that, when you put the dash switch into low range, you now have a terrific low range rear axle by itself. I use mine that way to climb up on blocks and often do not have to actually engage the front wheels to climb up. The seals in the Ford hubs fail over and over again.

Can't say much about your ordeal but I can say you are in one of the most beautiful and awesome parks in the country. Photos never do it justice. You have to see it to appreciate it. I hope you enjoy your stay.
