Forum Discussion
- rockhillmanorExplorerThe flip side and IMHO more important is the availability of all this info on the net TO criminals and how easy it is for them obtain info and to scope out a potential victim and strike with total success.
I've posted it before but when social media became the craze friends of mine in the horse world where posting pictures and videos of their farms, horses and horses lineage, shows etc........
Horse theft became rampant.
All the thieves had to do was gather all their info from the facebook page, address, lay of the farm, where the barn is located and where all the gates where AND more importantly from their posts WHEN they would be leaving to go out of town for a horse show. Poof stolen horses.
That goes for RV forums and whatever. People like to post pictures of their rigs, their profile shows real names and addresses. Even if just the city is listed all the crook has to do is look up the name. THEN they post when they are going to hit the road for a vacation or long term snowbirding. What more could a criminal want or need to have easy pickings. People put WAY to much personal info on blogs, facebook and the like.
IMHO being anonymous on line when using a public forum, website or anything internet, is NOT having a false sense of security. IMHO it's called being smart. :W - Francesca_KnowlExplorer

I'd be shocked to find out that anyone cared where I was/what I was doing if they DID bother to track me. :@
Still...just because I'm ornery: I don't own a single thing that could possibly do so, unless the defunct/unconnected cell phone I keep charged in the car for 911 purposes counts.
And I'd bet dollars to donuts that I'm the only person in this conversation that can make this (however dubious) claim to "invisibility"!
Even YOU have a trackable device. Without one, you would not be able to access this forum or any other part of the internet. ALL internet devices MUST use an IP address (Internet Protocal address) to log on. Big brother with the help of internet service providers can track that address in real time (now). Think of it as an internet phone number that can be traced.
EDIT. If you assume that you are trackable, you won't do something stupid that gets you into trouble. If you assume that you aren't trackable, you are fooling yourself and asking for trouble.
Very true. Not that I like to help big government out or anything, but just this one time I will.
I'm sitting on my couch typing about this post and petting my cat once in a while. Maybe if I throw them a bone big brutha won't slap me down too bad when I'm caught doing something bad. :B
Guess I could have been clearer- I was using "trackable" as relates to my person when away from home. I carry nothing that can track the movements of my tired old carcass/car etc.
I never worry about electronic tracking from/at my home address or at ATM'gas stations etc. due to my absolute belief that there is NO real privacy in the electronic world. No business of real consequence to my Family's lives is conducted online.
As a constant reminder of the porosity of the 'net, I never use it anonymously, either. False sense of security there...and I prefer to be always aware that everything I do/say can be tracked back to me. AT HOME. - W4RLRExplorerFor those of us who are amateur radio operators, we can be tracked because we WANT to be tracked. With a mobile amateur radio transmitter and a GPS along with some other hardware and software, we can send our location to a web server and those who want to know our whereabouts on the road only have to go to the web address of the server and enter our call sign. Our location will show up on a map. Great stuff for the adult children to keep track of us when we travel. If we turn it off, no tracking, as there is NO factory installed GPS or radio transmitter in any of our vehicles. No factory radio either, as we get better equipment in the aftermarket.
Since I am not running around on my spouse or robbing banks, personally I could care less if Uncle Sam or his minions know where I am. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

If you pay any bills at all you are traceable. Cash is king but someone still has your name, address and etc.

My conspiracy theory is that we won't be allowed to have cars, much less RV's. They sure don't want you to not have a physical address, or be able to drive where you want. Remember, it's for the good of the people.
Physical addresses are becoming obsolete. Everyone will have a cyber address from which they will be taxed, bills will be sent and paid and your exact location determined. In today's world, where you sleep is just about the most useless information there is. The only one that cares is "My Lowes", so they can remind you when to repaint.
EDIT. A lot of RVers are already living in a cyber world, where they have no physical address. They pay bill on line and all their creditors care about is where their bank is located. Their creditors and bank know that the RVers can't hide for long. - bmet2000ExplorerMy conspiracy theory is that we won't be allowed to have cars, much less RV's. - Water-BugExplorerCan you say OnStar, GPS, cellphone, traffic cam, quickpass, security cam, etc., etc., etc. I'd be shocked to fin out I wasn't tracked.
