Awning shock absorber

We have a 2015 Zinger TT with a Carefree motorized awning. On one side the shock absorber/lift spring is bent and needs replacement (my fault). I have received the new shock and was wondering if anyone has replaced theirs?
It looks like it's held on at each end with rivet, but not sure of the size required. If anyone can help out it would be appreciated., thanks!
  • Try looking at McMaster Carr. They have shocks for everything $15-$250.
  • Thanks myredracer, that's exactly what I was looking for!

(BTW, I bought my factory replacement shock on Amazon for $45.)
  • I'm about to replace one of the Carefree gas shocks on ours because it makes a super loud groaning sound when extended and retracted. Three attempts by the dealer couldn't fix it and Carefree was of no help when I contacted them. Those shocks sure are expensive!

You don't remove the rivets, the shocks have threaded ends that screw into the clevis joint. Detailed instructions on replacing the shocks are in this Carefree service manual
