Battery disconnect switch.

I would like to install a battery disconnect switch on my T.T. but a a simple way nothing too complicated, I'm not too handy when it comes to electrical issues.:o

Thank you all in advance..

This as simple as it gets but the downside is if the battery is located within a battery box with a strap around it you have to open that box every time you want to engage or disengage the switch. Any tongue mounted battery I've owned has been in a box so I instead mounted a Blue Sea battery switch on the end of the box - much more convenient. :)

  • This Blue Sea disconnect switch is probably the single most used switch by DIY'ers on an RV. Take the hot wire off of the battery terminal and put it on one of the lugs of the switch. Make or buy a short wire of the same or heavier gauge and run it from the other lug of the switch to the battery. Done.

  • slight error in my suggestion!
If you are going to use trailer, disconnect needs to be in positive with brake wire to battery.
If put in negative, brake away will not work as it needs negative from trailer battery.
  • and blue sea.com has even a nicer one ,switch # 5990 or 5991. but there out of stock.

Remember if you plan on towing trailer, to connect brake wire to battery not to output of switch.
