Best engine monitor for 2008 6.7 Cummins 2500

Well my old girl is about roll a 100G and figured I might want to start watching here vitals a bit more. What are my options for a plug-n-play dash monitor and what do I really need for towing a TT? Trany temp , boost? etc..
  • I have an Edge Insight CTS2. I love it. The Insight is just a monitor, not a programmer.

Prior to the CTS2 I had a Insight CTS.

Prior to the Insight CTS I had a plain old Insight, which had an LCD display and only displayed 4 parameters at a time.

I see you can add the EGT sensor - how hard is that and what does it really tell you?

Drill a hole in the manifold.

And just like the name implies, it reads EGTs

The transmission temperature is off the port. The EGT sensor was an easy install on a 5.9 as I had good access to the exhaust manifold. There are precautions that must be made when drilling and tapping to pick up all the metal chips and prevent them from making it into your turbo. Earlier trucks such as mine would deliver power and generate heat to the point of doing damage to the engine. The monitor will help you alter your driving habits to keep that from happening.
  • If it's a 2010 or newer don't waste your money unless you are upping power. The computer will not let it hurt it's self.

  • We use an Edge for our 2015 Ram dually. We are satisfied with its performance.
  • I have an Edge CTS with suction cup window mount. It shows 5 usable functions you choose at once with your top 3 being oversized. I find it to be indispensable. Don't know about 08 and the 6.7 but exhaust gas temperatures were not available via the OBD port on my truck and required a separate sensor. The EGT is the function I monitor the most followed by coolant and trans temperatures. The CTS is easy to read and is appropriately lit for night driving.
  • If you have a smart phone, download Torque and buy yourself a 15 dollar OBDII dongle from one of the dozens of Ebay sellers. The Pro version gives you access to everything that the Mfg allowed access to via the OBD port.
