well I did the first part of my experiment on diluting antifreeze. I took 4 ounces of AF and added 1 ounce of water so it was 20% water and put it in the freezer overnight. this am was not frozen solid, a little slushy as folks here have said it is supposed to do. will add another ounce of water making it 1/3 water and see what happens. So this assistant Myth Buster has completed step one and has rebutted the theory that any dilution will make it worthless.
and I think I have figured out the problem with the blue windshield wiper fluid freezing. years back I (without reading the label) grabbed a bottle of the cheap stuff on the shelf and put it in my cart. a sales clerk walked by and pointed out that there were two types and I had selected the one that had NO freeze protection, was for washing only. I checked the label and it certainly was labeled as not an antifreeze type product. so if I had used it and had a freezing problem it would be Operator Error.
I checked at walmart this am. generic was $3.50 and a PG/Ethanol mix. Prestone was $4.98 and was a PG/water mix.
