Rookie mistake

When the wife and I were preparing the trailer for this summer, my wife pointed out that the leveling system hydraulic reservoir was only about 1/2 full of where the fill line was. So, being the idiot that I am, I added a couple quarts of hydraulic fluid. Fast forward and now those 2 quarts are all over the inside of my battery compartment and the ground under the trailer. In my defense, I had just worked on the hydraulic steering on my boat and it was a closed loop system so the reservoir always stays at the same level. I've cleaned the mess up several times but ATF is like mice and just keeps reproducing. Anyway, I thought confession might be good for my soul and help keep someone else from making the same rookie mistake.

    We all have our stories! And, yes, I always appreciate reading them in hopes of avoiding them for myself!

    Don't feel bad. A buddy of mine did the same thing. Funny part of it was that he was trying to explain to me, and a third friend that we needed to top ours off too, as its bad to let them get low. He wasnt too happy either....

    Reminds me of a story from the early days of self-serve gas stations. Farmer friend's wife was filling up her car and, as she was taught, very carefully checked the oil via the dipstick. Was down a bit so she put a quart in, but couldn't =see= any oil in the filler hole, so she added more, and more, and more, until the engine was full. Oops...

    Yep. And if be could teach gasoline and diesel fuel to reproduce in the tank, he would be onto something.

    Check engine light came on, just had my oil changed, immediately thought there was a lube problem. Opened the hood. It was dark and the new oil was so clean and clear that the dipstick looked dry.

    You know the rest of the story (except for the part that the check engine light came on because the sensor was bad so it had nothing to do with the oil)
