BUGS BUGS BUGS!

We got a Rockwood Roo 233S this year. We love the trailer, but have had a couple of disappointments. One...it leaks. Two....there seems to be some way that bugs are getting in and for the life of me, I cannot figure out how. The bed ends are tightly sealed, the door is closed and sealed, windows closed. But, the trailer is full of mosquitoes at night. We close up, kill everything in sight, and within about 10 minutes, the trailer is swarming with bugs again. Is there some obvious way in that I am missing? This never happened in our old pop-up!
  • Thank you all so much! We had an appointment to bring the trailer in today for the leak. (It is an active leak....dripping on the bed when the trailer is open).
Thanks to the person who suggested checking out the stove vent. I took a look at it before I left...I didn't see any cover. The people at the service place were able to confirm....cover was gone. We had a big hole into the trailer....right next to the outside light! I am THRILLED that this will be fixed! Hopefully, they can figure out where the water is coming from, too!
  • Agree on even the tiniest little bit of fabric being caught in the bunkend seal and quarantee you'll have leakage. If you're not already doing this, make the close-up a 2-person job....poke all the fabric in, close slightly, the fabric that slipped back out - poke it in again, repeat until you can be sure it's all in there.

Re mosquitoes - door open and closed a zillion times?? Might also check the roof vents to be sure the screens are secure. Good thought on the stove vent, which you need to keep locked unless you're using it. Reason being that - another guarantee - it'll disappear one day between where you were and home. Not inexpensive to replace that little piece of plastic, so keep it latched. You might try an area spray product before you set up - early on with our HTT, we camped at a local small lake CG and the site had some low spots which had held water....water was gone, but truly, as DH backed into the site, the curb side had to have had a thousand mosquitoes swarm all over it. Before opening the doors, he unhooked and made a Walmart run for some spray and more bug candles. Don't camp there any longer. Mosquitoes nesting even if you don't see the standing water is a PITA.

Hope you can resolve these issues....know it's frustrating.
  • If you have a hook exhaust over the stove that vents outside on the side of the trailer, try snapping closed the flapper vent on the outside when not cooking. I know if I don’t snap mine closed, they can get in through there.
  • Just stating the obvious, no slight intended, but are you making sure you are tucking the canvas completely past the seals when closing up. All it takes is a little piece pinched and water will get in. This is of course is you mean it is leaking when closed. Canvas will need to get wet initially for the threads to seal when open.
  • If it is like my 236 the tent ends are the culprit because they do not seal 100%. However, that being said, I have never been plagued with a bug problem. Well, I might have lied, japanese beetles have gotten in more than once. Sneaky little devils.
