Bunk End Canvas

Just a random question to soothe my curiosity about bunk end canvas. Why don't they use the same type of heavy duty canvas as they do in pop ups? I never had condensation in my pop up, nor did I feel a draft on a windy night through the canvas. My dh and I wonder about this often.
  • We had a Coleman popup and now a Starcraft. They do use different materials. Starcraft also has done boats in the past and they use the same material as was for their boat covers, or at least they did. It is stronger than canvas supposedly.

In the end, I suspect it has to do with "who" owns "what" materials etc.
  • I had a 2007 Fleetwood Niagra popup and now a 2005 Trail Lite Batam Hybrid and the canvas ends are pretty much indentical on mine anyway.
  • We had a Jayco pop up and now we have a Jayco Kiwi and the canvas is the same in both.
  • i see no differences between the canvas on our old Viking popup and our Roo 23SS. but we had some condensation in the Viking also.

maybe you had Sunbrella canvas with your popup. that would be different.
  • I wasn't complaining about the condensation, I know how to prevent it. It was more a general question about canvas.
  • our up condensed at the ac
the hybrid condenses at the tents, poles, then windows.
TT condense the same at the windows
Our stick and brick crawlspace is a swamp in 90 high dew point conditions. Its nature at its finest. /
  • I keep my bunk end windows open with a gap of about an inch, the vent in my bathroom open wide (It has a MaxxAir cover!), and my thermostat set to about 68. Never had a condensation problem.
  • I had a Fleetwood and the canvas was very different than in my Roo. But it's interesting to hear that other pop ups have similar canvas.
  • I think it is pretty much the same canvas as a popup. At least is is on my Jayco compared to my previous popups. My guess on the condensation is this - Since there is so little canvas compared to a popup, the small amount of canvas that's there is is a big temperature difference compared to the rest of the trailer.

I've only ever had condensation worth mentioning once in my hybrid. That was this past Memorial weekend when it was really cold and wet outside and we had heat running a lot more than ever in the past.
