- 352ExplorerThanks everyone. I am just enjoying life and having a good time. Usually keep the play toys for about two years and move on. I feel so fortunate to be able to enjoy the rewards of hard work. Thanks again
- burningmanExplorer IIIt’s funny how many guys think that’s got a stock radiator, stock suspension, etc.
Sure it’ll tow, some reasonable amount.
Obviously it’s a hot rod and built for hauling... donkeys...
I used to have a ‘76 Ford half-ton with a very built ‘68 428, NP435 truck 4-speed, 9” rear, the thing was an animal in its day. Holley double pumper was really like flushing a toilet.
I used to carry a 10-foot camper and tow a boat behind it.
My guess is that ‘81-‘87 Chevy probably has a Turbo 400 behind its big-block and if it’s got a loose converter that would be the one weak link for towing anything. - 1320FastbackExplorerLooks a little soft in the back, might want to run airbags and overloads.
- backwater83ExplorerPretty sure the OP has no desire to tow anything, he just wanted to show off his truck. Take it to a vintage auto forum and show it off.
- Grit_dogNavigatorLet’s see some more pics of that truck!
- gkainzExplorerdon't know about towing, but that looks like it really ought to haul the mail! :) nice truck!

Not on that truck. Manufacturers were not forced to put those yellow stickers on vehicles until 2000 after the TREAD Act due to the Firestone/Explorer rollovers. - parker_roweExplorerNot a whole lot. It has the power, but not all the other things you'll need.
You'd have to change the wheels and tires for one, I'm guessing those don't have much load rating.
It's lowered and I'm guessing doesn't have a whole lot of payload.
Heat rejection will be an issue, especially if the trans has any sort of stall to the converter. Plus I doubt it has a lockup converter.
Very cool truck though. It could pull some light stuff without a lot of tongue weight. - ShinerBockExplorer
