Cargo Carrier

I'm looking for something to hold two yamaha ef2000 on my TT. I found this oneone which goes over the propane tanks on the tongue.

I have no idea how much tongue weight I can handle? The gennis weigh 44 lbs, so only 88 for generators + a gallon of gas each (about 14 more) + the weight of the carrier (? shipping wt is 68) so about 170.
  • I love the idea, but also agree with RJ that you should weigh the tongue and see what you are working with in terms of tongue weight first. If you plan to store the generators there, you can secure them with cables and locks like this Master Python I used on my Honda 2000:

Two issues I had were keeping the generator safe from weather...I had the Honda fabric cover that was water resistant but still let the gen get wet in the rain, plus you can't run it with the cover on. Second issue was the vibration in the trailer when running the gen on the rack.

Again, I think that rack is pretty cool, but it creates some potential issues.

I removed my rack and added a rear storage box where the gen stays inside and safe from the weather. Click pic for build thread:

This size box will easily hold 2 2000 generators.

When I run it, I take it out of the box and set it on the ground underneath. I still use the python lock to secure it to the TT frame and having the box above it keeps it dry from the rain.

Be aware that this mod will have the opposite effect on your tongue weight and can reduce it significantly.

I do the exact same thing with my Honda 3k unit. Never leaves my truck and padlocked in to keep honest people, honest.

I guess you have thought this out ok... I know this is a very convenient place to mount your generators but that sure would put your high dollar generators out in plain view and prone to thief.

I know I would worry myself sick everytime I had to leave the trailer unattended. Too big of a thief risk for me...

I only carry one 2KW Honda Generator and it is stowed securly to the tail gate corner of my truck bed. I also have a heavy plastic folding bed cover which lock. This keeps my generator out of sight until I have to use it. When I need to use it I just pull it out onto the truck tailgate and plug my trailer shore power cable into it.

  • You should weigh the tounge. Even with very little storage up front my trailer tounge weight was 1200 lbs (14% in my case) before I moved some stuff around. 14% was on the upper end of the recommended 10-15%, but 1200 lbs was right at the hitch limit.
There are several ways to get a tounge weight, but I opted to buy a Sherman Scale, which is a small hydraulic scale about the size of a softball.
