Center of gravity

You really need either a long bed truck or a short bed camper.
There’s gonna be no right answer with the combo you’re describing.
The camper center of gravity is still going to be pretty far behind the rear axle, like it is now.
If you weigh your axles I’ll bet you’ll be alarmed at how much each rear tire is carrying.
Probably too much.

As someone with an EC950 on a similar but long bed 3500 Chevy I sure wouldn’t want it on a short bed. At the very least the known weak spot with these and many slide models is the frame under the slide. Ours has a small sag to it. The 2004 vintage of bigger brother 1150’s would crack frame welds back there. That could only be made worse with that much more camper hanging unsupported off the back of the bed.

It’s about 4000 lbs loaded with a battery, LP, water an average amount of “stuff”. Regarding the thread title: the CG is roughly over the rear axle as the front axle weight didn’t change much if at all if I remember correctly. A short bed would definitely unload the front and overload the rear axle even more.

I also read EC 950 designed for long bed, but- so is the Fleetwood Caribou 9N?

By the numbers, no. Your 6.5ft bed is a short bed. The camper you are looking at, Eagle Cap 950 is in the long bed range. Anything over 900 will be designated LB. It is not something I would do, my 890 barely fits on my GMC short bed.

My money is tha the Eagle Cap is just as heavy or heavier than your current camper and I dont believe a 950 is recommended on a short bed.
Not sure if your current camper is either though. Usually the sb campers are at or under 9’ bed length like the EC 811.
