I'm a big fan of Ford's Ecoboost in the F-150. I think it's the best engine in the half ton. Better than diesel torque, the best fuel economy for it's power in half tons. Ford offers a max trailer towing package which is great of RVers with increased payload, big towing mirrors, integrated brake controller, etc.

However, GM is cheaper right now, more discounts with a redesigned coming in a couple months. I like GM's 6.2L/NHT package. Similar increase in payload, lots of power. GM's 5.3L is a fine choice for that weight too.

Get at least the respective HD towing package for additional trans cooling and 7-pin wiring.

I would drive both and pick the one you like most, if both have comparable payloads and towing weights.

My wife and I keep our vehicles a very long time, so it is important to us that we like them and that the equipment we need and want is on the truck.

After driving both trucks, which one makes you happiest? Remember you are going to own it for a long time, if you keep it five or six years or more.

That’s an easy one, CHEVY of coarse…. Don’t even need a reason…

I'd give you an unbiased opinion if I could. I've been a Ford fan all my life. I will say this though, the Ecoboost is a terrific motor. We purchased a trailer with similar weights as yours recently. Only towing time I've had is driving home from the dealers, 200 miles. I pretty much grinned the whole way, especially on the hills. What I would suggest, if you can, tow a trailer with each one.

If you make an unbiased choice you will probably be happy either way. But I sure like mine.

Nice try. Ecoboost is not even close to having better torque than a diesel unless you are talking early 90's. I am a big fan of the ecoboost but it certainly no diesel

I would go with the GM 6.2L NHT package the deals are great right now.

Can't go wrong with either one, but I lean towards Ford because I've had very good luck with them.

Get the biggest engine you can. I'd get the 6.2L V8 in the Ford if possible for heavy towing. It won't have the MPG as the EB, but it will easily deal with the trailer.
