Considering a new-to-me TV

I have about 10 years until I retire. At that point I plan on getting a newer TV and a TT. Until then I am planning on getting a new-to-me TV.

Today I tow my 6,500b 2009 Starcraft 241RKS with a 1996 C1500 5.7L 1/2 ton with a 3/42 rear end. The truck does fine but I would like some more power and a better chassis. My 20 year old truck has 187,000 miles in which the engine and transmission was replaced 40k miles ago. I have had one brake line blow out and others have corrosion on it. The truck has some issues which are minor like paint and seat motors that need attention.

After test driving chevy 1/2 tons I am looking at getting a 2006-2008 C2500 with the Duramax/Allison combo. Its been 18 years since buying a truck and I already have buyers remorse. ;)

My goal is to find a a truck that will give me 10 years good service, who knows maybe I will keep it through retirement for a while.

I am finding this truck with less than 150,000 miles for a good price. Does anybody have any advice or experience with this vintage, mechanically etc?

Thank you
  • I have the 06 GMC Sierra 2500HD D/A with 164,000 ish miles. I love my truck and would not sell it.
If you find a good deal on a 06-08 have it checked out and buy it. We have three years until we retire and have no reason to look at a different truck.
  • It's really tough to get a good deal on a used diesel unless it's one of the bad 6.0/6.4 Fords. I couldn't find one, anyway.

Now on gas trucks you can find some good used deals.
  • I purchased my 08 GMC 3500 DRW in 2013 with 98000 miles for $28000. Fully loaded with a 100 gallon Transfer Flow aux tank and the B@W Turnover installed. Dealer also put on all new tires and fixed the tranny cooler line.
This truck has been flawless except for the paint on the hood and roof, will get the truck repainted next year. I've put about 12000 on the truck.
A dually was less expensive than a SRW, I assume not many people want a DRW. Love this truck.
  • I found mine with a search I set up on the CarMax website. I would get an e-mail any time a 3/4 or 1-ton with diesel hit a CarMax lot within a 500 mile radius of me. Most were low mileage and about the price of a new one, or with 100 to 150,000 miles or more. Took 4 months, but I found a perfect match for my needs.

    What is the B@W Turnover?
