Construction Differences between Solaire and Passport

Hello,

We have narrowed our choices down to two travel trailers:

2014 Keystone Passport 2290BH
2014 Palomino Solaire 292QBSK

I know we have fans of both companies and I'm well aware of the differences in the floorplans. What I'd like to know is:

-Are the walls thicker on one over the other? The Solaire Salesmen says the Palomino walls are 2" vs. 1 1/2" on the Keystone.

-Are the "wide stance" axles on the Keystone better than the "TorFlex" axles that the Palomino uses?

-Any other ways the units are constructed differently.

Thank You for your input! :)
  • I assume you have determined what their roofs are covered with?
    bumpy
  • The Passport has a "One piece seamless rubber roof." The Solaire has "Alpha Superflex Membrane roof." Is the Superflex better?

if the one piece seamless rubber roof means EPDO

then i would say the Superflex which is a next generation TPO would be better.

x2, skip the EPDM roof IMHO.

  • My opinion, choose based on the floor plan you like better. Your gut has to be pushing you one direction or the other. The floorplans are nearly identical. Are they both at the same dealer? If not which dealer do you prefer? Which interior do you like better? To me, I would perfer the Solaire based on the fact that the bedrooms have doors as opposed to curtains. The comments I have read regarding the wide stance axles is that mostly no one can perceive a difference in towing.

Thanks for your input. Basically we did what you said and chose the Solaire. The biggest reason is that the Solaire has a 1/2 dinette in the bunkroom for the kids to use. Also, the dealer happens to be about 45 minutes closer to us. Some other reasons were: the doors rather than curtains, LED interior lighting, and the kitchen island.

    We pick it up tomorrow!
  • Congratulations. Our first trailer was a hybrid as well. You will appreciate not having to make up beds and having to climb over each other to get in/out of bed in the middle of the night.
