Don't be too surprised if you need to add 1/2 - 3/4 gallon of antifreeze after the fact too. Depending on your dealership/technician, they may not top off the overfill tank. From what I understand, FCA expects the tech.'s to re-use the coolant that spills out when the old pump is removed.
My dealer replaced my water pump on 3/19. When I picked it up I asked the service adviser if the coolant was only drained enough for replacement or complete drain and refill. He told me they always do a complete drain, including warming up to let the Thermostat open so that all coolant drains out, then a complete refill of fresh MOPAR grape juice. Also, the overflow tank is full right up to the correct line.

That's great that your Dealer is doing that. But my question is; how much coolant is lost when you take the pump off? It looks like the pump is just an impeller with a pulley and very little fluid would come out when you take the pump out. On the other hand, you might lose significant fluid with gravity pushing it out from the radiator fluid level above.
Just curious.

Hi all.. Does anyone know of a failed water pump? If so what happened to the engine. Jim2007
NOTHING happens to the engine. The "pump" gets **** HOT but still circulates water.

I just looked at mine. It was supposed to have been cleared when I bought it. I checked the VIN it says it was completed.
Mine is flush, with a vent hole.

The other issue here is this is a Cummins supplied part and if they use this pump on other engines (I'm sure they do) this is why there is a shortage of parts. Bottom line is like Troy said, parts are made as needed and shipped as needed so now they (the pump supplier) are going to have to work overtime to not only supply the parts needed for production but also for the recalls. Since this was a different supplier the other supplier (OMP) is going to have to be paid for this cost by Cummins and Cummins in turn will collect from the supplier that caused the recall (Concentric).
