Custom Hitch Folks

All

I tested my luck one too many times with my bike rack on the rear square metal hose carrier (if it was a bumper it'd still be attached - I digress) 849 miles into an 850 mile trip it gave up the ghost.

In the process of bidding out a custom hitch and hose carrier. The purpose and question: what did y'all pay for your custom hitch?

Thanks
Chip
  • It can vary greatly depending where you are. Get a couple estimates. Ask around for which shop has a good rep. FWIW, I reinforced my bumper with angle iron attached to the frame and bottom of bumper before installing my 2-bike rack.
  • I just welded a piece of square tubing to each frame rail. Each one was about 16" long and skip welded parallel to each other. They had a hitch pin hole drilled through the center. I use different attachments that I bolt on with a shoulder bolt through the hitch pin holes. One has a 2" ball to pull my alum fishing boat, another has a 18" wide expanded metal tray for the generator or firewood. I'll soon be building a wider tray, which will require adding lights, so I can haul the tadpole trike that I'm building. Just have to heal from a 2nd carpel tunnel surgery this coming Monday.
