Def fluid in new Ram
Picked up my new Ram 3500 yesterday and they informed me that I have to use mopar def fluid in order to not damage the system...have you other Ram owners experienced the same story?

Here is what you do.
Go into the dealership and tell the service manager you want that put in writing and signed by him and the owner of the dealership.
It will be fun to watch how their story changes and they start to stammer like Daffy Duck. :B Be sure to post it onto Youtube so all of us can enjoy! :B
Or they will just say you can use any fluid you like, BUT if you us the Mopar fluid and we find crystals in the DEF system and injector you will not have any issues getting the repair covered under warranty. Bet there won't be any stammering at all.
There have been issues with water contaminating DEF system. This is NOT a covered repair and IS a very expensive repair! If water gets in the tank it will form crystals that clogs the pump and injector. Leading to a costly repair.
If you are using the Mopar branded DEF fluid the you WILL be covered! There is a dealer bulletin saying just that. Sounds more like the person telling the OP about it just did not do a very good job explaining WHY you would want to use the Mopar fluid.
This is not just a Ram thing, it's a ALL brand thing. The question is does Ford and GM tell their customers this or would they prefer them to us an off brand fluid and then charge their customer for the repair?
Don
Oh and BTW I filled mine up at the Flying-J, but after seeing the bulletin I may start buying it from the dealer from now on.

Well I did buy my first 2.5 gal there... $22 tax included. It was the service man that told me that...said they've had to replace a couple systems, about $7000, due to bad def fluid purchased somewhere.
So the tech is guarrenteeing that mopar def will never be bad?
I bet the owner of the dealership would loive to know his tech just put him up to pay for any damages done if his mopar def goes bad

What a CROCK of male cattle defecation!!!!!!! DEF is DEF, that guy should definitely be called on that! I get it he's trying to make money for his dealership but that's out right lying!
If you buy DEF in a jug just watch the expiration dates.
Dan
Could you supply a picture of an expiration date on a label on a jug of DEF ????? I have yet to see an expiration date stated on a label. Have seen label dates at Walmart, don't know if thats when they received it or if it was manufactured on that date, but never any mention of expiration .
Here's what I'm talking about. On each jug, somewhere there should be a date stamped like on this jug of DEF I got from the dealer the day I picked up my new truck.
I too was waaaay over charged for my DEF! I was charged just under $63,000 for just one gallon. They did however throw in a 2015 RAM 3500 Laramie HO 385 hp Aisin trans with rear air suspension for "free". :B
