You have never towed an RV unless you have towed over the Verrazano Bridge to the Brooklyn Queens Expressway or over the George Washington Bridge and then on the Cross Bronx Expressway.

I used to do it with my first trailer back in the early 80's. I look back now and wonder what was I thinking? But when you are young, you don't think.

This is the way I would go. Of course this passes my house, so it is obviously the bast way for me. ๐Ÿ™‚ Avoiding DC is ALWAYS a good option even if it is a longer distance.

What bumpy said. I-95N to Fredericksburg, 17N to Marshall, I-66 to I-81 to I-78.
Me? I'd get plenty of rest and do the I-95 thing. Just pack a box o' patience.

You have to time the DC traffic if you stick to I95, but it can be done. Towing a trailer I would probably recommend getting off the NJTP at exit 10 towards Perth Amboy over the outer bridge crossing, follow 440 up the W. Shore Expressway to I278 east (staten island expressway) over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, Follow 278 through Brooklyn to I495 to continue heading east (do not take a motorhome or trailer on any of the LI parkways!!! They have low clearances and that could be a costly mistake.

I would not recommend the GW bridge and down I87 (Major Deegan Expressway) to he JFK bridge, every time I have had to deal with the GW its always major delays unless you are lucky enough to find that one small window to get through.

You can also get off the NJTP at exit 13 and take the Goethels bridge as well, its a straigher shot since that is I278.

A lot depends on the time of day, day of the week, and pure traffic luck. You can run any of these highways with nearly any size rig - 95, 495, 695 - and just avoid the tunnel (circle 695 to the west) without going way out of your way and do just fine. Don't try it on a week day from 5 to 9 AM or 3 to 7PM and you'll most likely be fine. This time of year is actually the best - summer vacation season cuts the traffic significantly - even rush hour stays about 40 / 50MPH instead of the crawl it is for the rest of the year.
