You really don't have to be somewhere when you really think you have to be somewhere. Staying where you're at, no matter what the stupid schedule says is sometimes the best answer.

I remember reading about a chiropractor who just "had" to open his office back in the NE a year or so ago, when the weather forecasters said the area was going to receive a paralyzing snowstorm. Well, he left work late, and was heading home, because, of course, he "had" to be home, and wound up spending the night in his car on the freeway. Wouldn't it have been better to stay in your own chiropractic office with lights, heat, bathroom, running water, food, etc. than sit in your car in a blizzard all night?

You don't have to be somewhere, especially if where you are at is better than not getting "there" in one piece.

Same goes for our schedules when we are on the road with a travel trailer.

That is scary no matter how you look at it.

Just looking at the video the winds were very gusty, a 5er of the same size might likely survived. That would be for two reasons while a bit taller, also much heaver, that TT could be as much as 4,000# lighter than a 5er of the same length.

5er hitch has a limited side tilt before it would also need to take the truck also. Not saying that it can't happen, but in this case not likely.

Last October, I spent two nights in the Rapid City KOA due to wind. When we left, we saw 4 semis on their sides in the ditch, and one fifth wheel RV in the same condition. The tractors were still hooked to the semi trailers, and were on their side as well. The truck that had been towing the RV was not there when we saw it.
Yes, it DOES happen, even with fifth wheel hitches!

He should have been towing with that Prius from the other thread. :)

Not sure when it happened, but a member here, user name Veebees, had his Alpenlite fifth wheel trashed on I-80 in Wyoming a few years back.

Huge wind gust caught him and away things went.

I've seen pictures he posted. Fiver is down slope from the road, and just completely obliterated.

Truck turned out with minimal damage (hitch and other damage in the box where things pulled), and didn't roll with the fiver because he had a dually.
