DURAMAX GLOW PLUG

Pretty easy diy project, but understand using dealer or mechanic service, too.
Dealer will probably want you to change out all 8, but it is not a requirement to do them as a set.

I find a warm engine makes job a little easier. Definitely spray penetrant oil on threads before removal especially if you live in the rust/snow belt. It takes longer to remove inner fender for access than the actual r&r of a single glow plug. Make sure the new glow plug has high temp anti seize on threads before install to ensure reasonable removal the next time it is done.

It's over $900 at a dealer to have Glowplugs on a Duramax changed.

You are never completely useless. You can always serve as a bad example.

OP I have had a burnt out GP for about a year. Everytime I want to change it something pops up in my life and it gets put on the back burner.

Anyway, if you live in pretty warm weather it can go forever. (I hope to change it in about 2 weeks)

Anyone WITH a sense of humor would have known my comment was to be light hearted! Guess I should have used a :B or a ;).

FYI a broken glow tip can cause real issues when stuck in a valve!

Don't leave glow plugs that no longer work in the engine, because they don't get hot they can build up carbon around the tip. When that happens, they can be tough to get out, secondly, they are simple to change but only change them when the engine is cold. Otherwise, you risk removing some of the threads in the head along with the plug. Google how to change them and get on with it.

My 06 Dmax had several glow plugs go out over the years. I ran for months sometimes with one out and never noticed a problem but that was rarely in any weather near or below freezing.

I've heard they are super easy to change but do beware if you break one I believe you are looking at removing the head to repair it. The older the engine gets the tougher they may be to get out. I always just had mine done at the dealer as my wrench twisting days are largely over.

Friend has a 500 HP cummins and he had glo plugs relaced once. It is an 04 Monaco.

He could be wrong. He has owned many diesel engines. Many means a heck of lot of engines because of his business. I might ask if he is in the mood. We had a discussion on a president he loved for 8 years today. Pissed him a little.
