I have a 09 aspen AWD with 4.7 engine ,ones with 5.7 hemi have a selector switch with 4hi and 4lo which I assume is more like a 4wheel drive pickup. My Awd turns all 4 wheels if you jack it off the ground but I think the axles are driven through clutches that slip to allow wheels to turn at different speeds when going around curves without crabbing or jerking like a real 4wheel drive .I don't know if it will spin both axles if you really got it stuck. It might drive the axle that spins the easiest and only allow the other axle to only partially drive through the clutches. I've never been in that bad a situation with mine so I'm not sure.
