- colliehaulerExplorer IIIWell I bought the truck a 2000 Ford V-10 manual transmission F-250 XL with 169,000 miles. He said the truck had been serviced regular and the only things it would need is 2 tires on the front (back tires were replaced) and possible clutch.
Next question who makes a decent Clutch kit? The price on ebay was all over the board. Sachs was about the middle, are they any good? What would you recommend? - JarlaxleExplorer II

Does anyone know what the Ford V-10 Is rated for longevity?
Seen many over 250K without a problem. Most I saw on a vehicle was 553,000 miles. That was one of the toughest applications around, too: an F-550 repo truck! - All_I_could_affExplorerWell technically it was 20 months we had the truck, so about 7,000 per month.
But the noise got a lot louder last nite and it lost power do boss dropped it off at the ford dealer snd hopefully we will hear that it's not as bad as we fear jus2shy wrote:

I was hoping for a long trouble free life on my work truck, a 2013 Ford F550 with the 3 valve per cylinder V10. We bought it new last April and it just turned 133,000 miles! Unfortunately it just suddenly last week developed a nasty tapping noise from the upper passenger site of the motor. I have a feeling it's a valve lifter, but boss hasn't yet taken it anywhere, nor have we pulled the valve cover to take a look. I'm disappointed because this truck has recieved fresh Motorcraft semi-synthetic oil every month since new. I hope this is an isolated insident
Does the engine also diesel a little bit when idling? Typically, tapping noises like that are caused by the cam phasers. It's probably the only weak point left on the Mod motors after the spark plug fix. They tend to get loud as they get older, but they haven't failed until the engine actually runs crappy. Best to have your mechanic confirm what the issue is, but typically tapping is caused by the cam phasers and not so much the the valves or buckets/lifters.
The Ford V10 doesn't have cam phasers.- jus2shyExplorer

That's a heck of a lot of miles in one year.

- hone_eagleExplorerGood thing the ave. motorhome mileage is so low it would take a life time to achieve those numbers.
- ib516Explorer III tried to find the page I am referring to, but can't. It was a comparison between the workhorse motorhome chassis with the 8.1L V8 and the Ford v10 chassis. In it, the rated service life was compared and the Ford was 250,000 miles where the 8.1L workhorse was 350,000. In any case, the Ford v10 is as good as any other gas engine.
- carringbExplorerLes, I haven't figured that out for sure. I'm leaning towards an e450 cutaway with a fiberglass body (like short bus or maybe contoured utility body). the vans are just so much more maneuverable off road for the same body length compared to a f-series chassis, and the undercarriage is a little better packaged, so the floor can be lower for the same ground clearance
But, the Transit has my attention too, but that would require downgrading to an ultralight trailer and they don't come close the the insulation or off road ability of my current Creekside.
