I'm curious if anyone uses one of these with a truck camper mounted? The extra storage would be nice and I think I could access the rear pullout drawer, though it would be tight. The same goes for the main compartment on top. Fender well storage box

That storage box looks interesting; my thoughts:-the box weighs just about 60 LBS (about the weight of an extra battery);-several truck campers make tubs that are step-constructed geometry to fit tightly over the truck bed wheel wells and take up all the space aft of them (like ours), so study your truck camper tub design carefully before buying one;There must be a blow-molded HDPE storage box alternative out there on the market that would be about 1/3rd the weight of this metal box (this would be a good product for someone like TorkLift to design/offer, possibly: blow-molded fore/aft truck camper side saddle storage boxes, for the most popular truck campers' tub geometries)? For our camper tub design, I wish an HDPE bed-mountable box that would fit fore of our 2 wheel- wells were available (to mount, securely, 2 more batteries).Thanks for posting the link. This product offers much food for thought as additional storage!

A plastic model of the Aluminium storage box is a good idea..In our model of camper we can access this area on both sides frominside the camper via two doors on hinges...We have 4 duffle type insulated bags that we wrap in heavy plastic bags in those two areas of the truck. We use insulated bags for shock absorption as sharper objects tend to mark up the camper tub from the motion.If we had a plastic version of the storage box I would have a hole cut in the side as well as the rear access door, with our present system it is hard to reach that area of the truck box from the back of the truck , the box would solve that problem, the plastic bags get a bit dirty from dust after a while.. The area opens up a relatively large storge capacity for us...We stuff it full of things that are not in every day use.. Maybe too much "stuff" as we gross about 11,500 going down the road...

I know on my camper that box would not work. My camper widens out right after the wheel wells. That is where my bathroom is located. I only have 3/4" clearance on each side of the camper in my tailgate opening and the same size runs forward into the bed.

The first thing you will need to know is the width when mounted. I have 2 Undercover Swing Cases that I have to remove before mounting the camper because they are too wide to allow the camper to fit between them.

Ha! I wish. You never know. Someday. Li-ion Technology is really moving. It may not be too far off that we have batteries 1/4 the size they are now with comparable Ah service.

I have no way to access the aft section, but do have two doors to the forward section in my Fox. I've been trying to think of a way to utilize these spaces...and I'd very much like to find a way to carry fishing poles.

Also, while not secure,,,,these spaces are out of sight, and very hard to get to. A larger box would be nearly impossible to get out over the bed rails. I can't even get my arm in there with the camper on.

A waterproof/resistant duffel is a good idea.

I'd love to see pictures of others setups for storage in these spaces.

How about more water capacity in the wheel wells , I can fit one of these15 gal tanks in the forward well and a 9 gal in the rear on the side the camper doesent use the room
I added a tee btwn the camper tank and pump w/valves and a quick connect out where the camper wiring 7 pin harness is

Now you're talking. Two more of my current 6V's would give a total of 926Ah's. Seems to me the extra power to weight ratio would be worth it. 4 days vs. the 2 I'm currently getting out of my setup.

Interesting! Richie, I did some searching, and found that manufacturer of in-line battery boxes: it is Century Plastics, of Richmond, BC (Phone (604) 271-1324 or e-mail: cplast@telus.net ) These people are roto-molders.

Their narrowest in-line box is only 7.75 inches wide (with lid on: 8.5 inches), and 21.75 inches long. THIS may make an excellent fore storage box on one side of the truck bed, and a second storage box could be installed on the other side (fore of the wheel wells) ? Thinking.......this may be a great way to bring along 4 batteries (plus the 2 in the camper = a 6 battery set-up) ? Hmmmmmm. Must check the battery dimensions.....

I have used simple battery boxes before from wallyworld and worked out good. Right now i can fit one or maybe two with the Lance 990 hatch openings in my truck. Mostly truck or cleaning supplies i store.

It's a shame for wasted space fore of the wheel wells when you don't have interior door access, but for those front sections that do have access doors I was thinking of a detachable box (plastic? one whole side open, with latches and weather seal) that goes into the truck first, then load the camper, open the access door, pull the box toward the camper knee wall compressing the weather seal and latch it (other half of the latch pre-installed on the camper exterior knee wall). That would keep the storage cleaner and dry. Don't forget to unlatch before camper removal LOL.

Maybe something similar behind wheel wells Mike? Depending on its configuration?

It's gonna be pretty tight, Mike. You'd have to be RIGHT on the money every time when sliding in.

As it is, I currently use the space on the driver side for half gallon of diesel service additive, a funnel, rags/towels, shore cord, water hose and shallow dish for cleaning the dogs paws off.
On the passenger side goes leveling blocks/pads. Now that I think about it, I'd probably have less room with a box in there.
