First trip with our Host Mammoth
I've lurked here for years and asked lots of questions but never felt I had anything to offer back. I thought I'd share our first experience with our (new to us) Host Mammoth. Firstly, love how much room we have. We had 8 adults and 2 grandkids inside at one time over Fathers Day. At the time it was 95 at the lake. Besides the room my wife is thrilled she doesn't have to climb up into the bed like our old Lance. Lots of storage and the original owner had a roller tray put in the basement. Awesome. The skylite in the shower is great. We can't comment on the satellite since we don't have any service. I couldn't get any reception with the antenna but we don't go to watch tv so a dvd once in a while is fine. I can't express how much I value electric jacks. Next time we stay in Oregon I can drop the camper and run around. Running over logging roads is no fun with a heavy camper. The fantastic fan is just that Fantastic. I will be adding a cover before our trip to Oregon. The fridge is awesome. Bottom draws aren't as roomy as our Lance but no biggy. The freezer space is great. Tv out front and in back is great. Grandkids watched a movie camped out on the bed while we all chatted at the dinning area.
There are a few small negatives. The toilet is a bit of a challenge. I'm a tad over six foot so standing while using it........well, I kind of ducked, put my left leg up and leaned in. I looked like Captain Morgan. I will be making a 6-7 inch stool so my wife has a better place to put her feet on because it's a little awkward when she sits. Having the toilet right next to the dinning area.....enough said. Having the black tank in the slide out is a challenge to my wife because it's up so high she needs a stool to connect the hose. Having to extend the slides to not only enter but to access anything is a challenge. Especially in a parking lot. We always appreciated being able to pull over at any time to use the bathroom or make a meal. Now we have to find enough space to do that. The electric awning is nice to have but due to the slide out it has to extend straight out and can't be angled down. I will be getting a 10x12 shade to attach to it to help out. The camper is heavy and I will need to get larger brakes and change out the sway bar to a Big Wig. North County Springs removed my lift kit and put on new springs. No overloads. The bed drops just shy of 3 inches with the camper.
Over all, we really like this camper. We are dealing with several issues which we didn't know about when we bought it and since the warranty is not transferable we're on our own. I want to thank everyone here for all the advice you've shared and I hope to have everything fixed soon. Thanks.
