Well, I can tell you that the F-150 door latch issue is a real safety issue. My current work truck is one of the effected ones. It was already off warranty when it started and could not be figured out at the dealer (reproduce the symptom). Nothing like having the drivers door open on it’s own while driving down the road to get your attention. Other times it simply wouldn’t latch at all. And now the rear suicide door on drivers side won’t latch properly at times. I just recently got the recall notice, and will be notified again when replacement parts are available. I’m hoping soon.
Not a truck, but unintended door opening for Ford isn't new. Read Lee Iacoca's autobiography when he wrote of his early years at Ford showing a new model to the media at a car show. The passenger doors were tied together by a rope because they would pop open if the car was driven over rough pavement. That was in the mid 1950's. My late father had a '65 Fairlane (company issued vehicle) that had the same problem, and a trunk that converted to a swimming pool when it rained.
One would think by now ANY manufacturer would have the basics figured out............
