Looking at the F150 w/ the 3.5 Ecoboost engine with the payload & tow package.
Ford claims w/ payload package & 18" wheels payload is #3010 w/ 17" wheels #2800.
What do guys think would be the "real" weight limit for a camper? And what camper would you recommend.
Looking for a hardside camper.

I carried a 8' hard side and 2 different 8' popups on F150 6 cylinders for years and that was the old 240ci straight 6 and the V6 that replaced it (lots less power than the current ecoboost). As long as I didn't want to tow in hilly country in addition it did fine. I eventually replaced it with an F250 7.3l diesel (still with an 8' popup) and it does job easier but the F150 was adequate, I just didn't leave it on when not needed. The F250 hardly knows it is on so it stays on unless I need an empty pickup box.

An F150 of recent vintage is a good match for a small to medium TT. Not a good match for a hard sided TC with full tanks and options unless designed for it specifically. And then I still would have to be convinced by going for a test drive.

Thanks for the link DJ but 6'7" floor length is a bit tight. Probably gonna just stick w/ my TT

Regardless of what claims are laid out most any full height camper is going to require a 250/2500 series truck at the bare minimum.

Thats what i was afraid of!! Only reason i'm buying a 1/2 ton is because gas mileage is a consideration. Its gonna be the wifes every day driver and she does close to 80 miles a day

I don't understand why anyone who hasn't yet bought their truck and still has their options wide open would ever choose a half-ton with carrying a camper in mind unless you're going to limit yourself to the very smallest and lightest ones.
FORGET the published dry weights of all RVs of every type. They all weigh a LOT MORE when actually set to go.
The newer half-tons are fine for moderately sized trailers.
The new half-tons keep getting stouter, but the campers keep getting heavier!

What he said!

I custom-ordered a 2016 F150 4x4 Eco 3.5 and picked it up at the end of May. It's a great pickup and I love it. Getting over 20 mpg and yet have all the power in the world. But I would never consider putting a hard-side camper on it. I used to have a camper on a F350 single rear wheel and that to me was scary in some situations so now my camper resides on a dually.

That being said, if you do a search on here there were some posts about an F150/Ford manufactured camper that supposedly Ford is offering.

Didn't Ford partner with Livin Lite for the 150 ?
