Ford vs Chevy or old tech versus new tech

After 7 years of ownership, I recently sold my Chevy 3500 passenger van and bought a Transit 350 Ecoboost passenger van (148 wbase).

I was tempted to by another Chevy 3500 with the 6-speed tranny but the
more I thought about it, I came to the realization that the Chevy is
so old school (although I've had 3 as tow vehicles and they have been
built proof).

Do instead I bought a Transit long wheelbase passenger van with the
ecoboost engine (400lbs of torque and 6-speed tranny).

The Ford is mush more modern compared to the Chevy - the seating
position, the all-round visibility, the ergonomics.....

It's soooooo quiet inside and hardly any noise towing at 65mph.
The engine has a boat load of grunt from low down and gear changes are
virtually seamless. Towing at 65mph was effortless, very little wind
buffeting AND i'm getting around 14mpg with a 4,000 lb TH.

There is more legroom - although I think it's slightly narrower.

So far - pretty happy with the new TV.
  • I have talked to several "random" Transit owner, because I am interested in buying one (when they finally install an upgraded interior with 4 bucket side).

Transits are a bit narrower, especially between the rear wheel well. The OEM tires, especially on the entry level cargo van do not do well in snow or wet. Even though the EcoBoost V6 has a lot of power, cargo capacity and towing capacity are low.

I keep waiting for an after market dually kit that put the second wheels outboard of the body for more stability, like they do on 3/4 and 1 ton dually pickups.
  • I'll take a Sprinter over the transit I drive work.....

  • I am glad that you are happy with it. That is better mileage than I got from my E350's running empty.
