I was"Born and Raised" in that part of WV...This part of the Interstate goes through the New River Gorge on I 64 from Sandstone Falls (located on New River), and intersects I77 heading into Beckley, (north), or Bluefield, (south).. I've towed this stretch numerous times, last time was about a month ago towing my 5er loaded to 16,200#...Don't know why they didn't do the entire run of the mountain....It's a 6% grade going into a 7% grade for about the last 2 and a half miles or so, though the entire run is closer to 6 miles....speed limit is 7. I didn't slow down to 50 mph to hit a certain point to see how my truck performed up the 7% grade part, but running 60-65 mph, I've topped that mountain, towing this 5er at 65 mph, but again, I didn't slow to 50 to at that mile marker...but believe next time I tow my 5er up that mountain, I'm going to slow to 50 mph until I hit the mark they did and see if I can accelerate back up to 60 mph or so...
My 5er weighs 4,000# more than the one's being towed, but nevertheless, I'm curious as to how my truck will do the way these guy's ran the mountain.
It's funny, I never even bothered to look at the video until later last night, (figure I already knew the results), but when I did, it was like a home coming in a way...never thought I'd see a place I'm VERY familiar with in one of these test..kinda cool, no matter who won.:)
