frame mounted bracket clearance

I am getting ready to bring home a new to me truck camper and just put on the frame mounts on my truck. I did not go the Torklift route (I know, don't ask) and the ones I have are fine but the one on the corner with the tailpipe touches the pipe. It comes out above the pipe and forced the pipe down a bit when it was tightened so there is no more movement in the brackets holding the exhaust. Is this bad? Is it going to cause stress somehow and create issues? Any thoughts?

If it is an issue I guess I could go to a place that could hang the exhaust an inch lower or so.
  • If you are happy with the brackets, best have the pipe moved a bit, on my flatbed they did just that and have had no problems since it was moved. jmho
  • If your pipe isn't rattling against the tie down, I don't think you'll have any problem.
  • I didn't know there were frame mounted tiedowns that weren't Torklift?
  • They are installed correctly. The dealer and I knew it would be a close call on them fitting as the previous owner of my truck had some exhaust work done so it ended up not exactly in the stock location.

We actually tried the Torklift ones first but there was no way they were going to work. They were my first choice. Then we ended of up with the ones I installed tonight. These are made in house at a large RV dealer in my area. Good news is they cost a lot less than the torklift ones. I could have used the front Torklift ones but I thought there was no point to that. Just kept the same type all the way around.

    Ditto.

With my camper off the truck, and the tiedown insert inserted on the hitch, it rattles, so I always remove the insert when I remove the camper. (TorkLift)
With the camper on, and tension applied to the tiedown (via the fastgun) there's maybe 1/8" of clearance. It never rattled, and I don't concern myself with the minimal clearance.
  • Even the torqlifts are not perfect. I ordered mine specifically for my truck and type step rails and factory hitch. Had to notch rear step bracket on both sides to get the fit. Rear passenger side narrowly misses factory exhaust. All worth the cutting in the end.
  • I think in the short term I will leave it to get the camper home and maybe one or two short weekend trips before the weather really gets bad. But I see myself making it right as it will probably just bug me otherwise. It wouldn't take much for an exhaust place to redirect the tailpipe slightly to miss it entirely. It's just the right thing to do. Primarily I was worried about possibly damaging something in the meantime while the pipe is being forced down a bit.
