Freezing Fridge

This season my fridge has started freezing liquids. With it set on 2 it froze a couple bottles of water and an entire gallon of milk. The fridge was no where near full, but it wasn't empty either. The funny thing, it will freeze 1 bottle of water, but the one next to it is cold, but not froze. Do I have a circulation problem?
  • The thermistor was all the way to the top. I moved to the halfway point. If that doesn't help I'll get a new one. Thanks for all the help.
  • Ours did the same thing. You need a new thermistor. One is about $25.00 and you can install easily.
  • You have an fridge that you can adjust temperature.....ie: you set it on 2

Moving thermistor will not correct your freezing problem in the food section.
Moving thermistor does affect those that have a factory pre-set temp (no panel adjustment button).

Freezing in food section is can be due to faulty thermistor...either has fallen down out of clip or is bad

    You can test the thermistor
Unplug it from lower board (P2 pin)
Stick thermistor in glass of ice water (mostly ice) for 8-10 mins
With digital meter check resistance......8000-10,000 ohms
    IF bad replace thermistor
  • Thanks. I'll check it out. Come to think of it, the fins are freezing up more this year than last. I left it on all last summer with no problems. This year I've had to defrost it twice.
  • Slide it up for colder, down for warmer. Takes a little experimentation as the temp change is gradual. I would start in the middle, and adjust up and/or down as needed.
  • It's whatever fridge came in my '08 23B when we bought it new. I'm pretty sure it's a Dometic. The sensor on the fins, is that the thermistor? How do you adjust it?
  • Well, there is no circulation in these two way fridges. Only way to have circulation is to add a fridge fan. I use one in mine and the batteries do last a good month.

It still shouldn't freeze anything on Number two though. Check the thermo sensor that's attached to the metal fins in the fridge, it may have come loose.

This is the fan I use. Makes a big difference in evening out the temp in mine.

  • What type of fridge do you have. Lots of times you just need to adjust the thermister.
