From F150 ecoboost to F350 6.2 ** New truck content**

For the gas F-350 6.2L expect more like 11-13 MPG. If your going to go threw that big of a change F-150 to F-350 get a diesel 6.7L. On mine not towing I get about 16-19.5 MPG on my 6.7L. 12.5-14 MPG on the flats then down to 7-8 MPG in the mountains/large hills. Get a diesel ,better mileage + the higher cost of diesel prices vs. gas prices; still saves you about $4-$7 per fill up.Plus diesel pulls better and lasts longer.

If you think the EB has torque just imagine an engine with twice that much grunt.

If this helps, I have an 2004 F350 6.0 diesel 4:10 rears and pull a 12,000# trailer (20,000# gross) as in signature. I set cruise at 60 mph (just under 2,000 rpm) put in Tow/Haul and it went up and down hills of PA I-80, I-81 thru Scranton and I-84 to CT and did not miss a beat. It would drop a gear rpms between 2,500 and 3,000 depending upon hill. Engine and trans temp just sat there like not an issue. On the 90 degree days the engine fan would cycle once or twice on a long hill. 18 mpg just running around. Towing 10-12 mpg depending upon terrain.

I'm sure the newer ones would do much better.

There are several threads around that posters indicate that the breakeven milage on the diesel is about 250,000 miles. You have to measure that against the power you get with the diesel. 10 years ago it was a no brainer when diesel was 2/3 to 3/4 the price of gas.

Since the ecoboost runs less in the rpm dept, you will notice the 6.2 gas job hit a few rpms higher in the hills ( normal). This is the way any small block engine is designed regardless of manufacture. Any with the 430 gear set, it should be a towing boss.

With a 3.73:1 ratio, the 4.30 will have about 15% more RPM's for a given road speed. So say you currently have 2,000 RPM at 60 in a certain gear, the 4.30 will have about 2,400 RPM in that same gear and the same speed.

The Ecoboost gets great mileage because the displacement is small, and this causes there to be much lower internal friction. This is due to smaller stroke length, less piston diameter, so the rings have less wear. Also the lower engine RPM helps boost the MPG. Turbocharging helps boost the MPG too.

The F-150 has about 2,500 - 3,000 cargo rating, depending on it's option level, and curb weight. This is nearly as much weight capacity as the F-250. The F-350 has about 3,500 - 4,000 cargo rating.

Your F-150 can tow the trailer, make sure that you are using the recommended 92 octane gas. If you have a need to carry a lot more weight, such as firewood, generator, or ect. then the F-350 is the way to go. I would still recomend a 3.73:1 rear axle ratio. This will offer better mileage. If you want more power, just press the right foot down, the truck will downshift, and give you all the power you want, even if it means going to 2nd gear and making 330 HP and high torque.

With the 4.30:1 gear ratio, then you will need to be going much slower road speed to reach second gear while climbing a hill. With the 3.73, I can run in second gear at 45 MPH. But of course you get better MPG by leaving it in drive and running a lower engine RPM.

I may have been slightly confusing, but I've actually towed this new TT with my current truck from Moncton N.B to Foxboro MA last week then to Portland ME last weekend(currently at Bayley's resort till Monday) and the truck performed its pulling duties flawlessly, had very little trouble in all respects towing this big brute, however as I've stated before, I know I'm over my payload and want to fix it as my two daughters won't be getting lighter and I'm not sure how well the truck would perform in an emergency situation, this is a lot of TT.

As long as the 6.2 will be up to the same task while being more stable I'd be happy with that. Not sure that I want to dish out an extra 10k for the diesel option however I'm going to take a hard look at it.

I tow 11.5K with an F 250 6.2 with 4.30 diffy.

I run 65 at 2000 R's in 6th gear.

I just went from diesel to gas and will never look back.

Have you ever watched the up hill pull offs between the gasser and diesel? There was just tiny smidge of a difference.

And that old saying ab0ut as diesel lasting longer than as gas - modern day gassers run virtually forever also.

Seems to me that old time thinking has not been modernized to acomodate the gasser capability.

Do the math, it is your decision, but just generalized comments about the diesel should not be in the equation.

With my work truck, 2012 4x4 CC with the 6.2 and 4.30 gears, I average about 15-16 on the highway and about 9 when towing a JD Skidsteer. I love the truck and engine combo, it's what I will be ordering when it's time for a new personal vehicle-XL bare bones.

Everyone likes to comment that diesel engines will outlast gas. I'm not a hard core diesel or gas fan one way or the other but I don't believe the comment about a diesel lasting longer should really be part of the equation. I have yet to personally know anyone to wear out a vehicle based on the engine, its the rest of the vehicle around the engine that falls apart long before the engine, whether it be diesel or gas.
