I was thinking about Rancho 9000's but if there is something better out there let me know.

I have Rancho's and like them very well. I do have a Ramsey winch and associated equipment stuck out there. If I didn't have that maybe a Bilstein would be fine. Rancho has a great warranty also.

For a heavy truck the Bilstein 5100 shocks (model for a non-lifted truck) are what I would buy. I have Rancho 9000 now and they are OK but not any better than the factory shocks they replaced.

Harvey,
Remember that adjustable shocks on the front axle are not necessary as the load on that axle does not change enough to need adjustability.
I use Pro Comp single phase shocks to good avail on the front.
I have used KYB's in the past and liked the gas charged a lot. There is so much gas pre-charge that they give you a strap to hold it in the closed position. When you release the strap, be prepared to shove the bolt thru there just as it gets to the line up position. Either that or a 2 foot long screw driver as a wedge. For an off-roader, a further point is that they actually get stiffer as they warm up, and not die as they get hot.

I run Icon's and thus far have been impressed with them. Abit rougher ride without camper but nice and tight with the AF loaded
