fuse keep blowing question

The fuse in the truck (fuse 47 in the fuse box) that control the trailer right side turn signal keeps blowing. I have replaced the fuse 3 times. What is causing this? It is a 15 amp fuse, If i put a bigger amp fuse will that help. No other electrical problems. I did replace both batteries , went from 750 amps to two 800 amp batteries.
  • Do not put in a bigger fuse. You could cause a lot of damage. You most likely have a wire pinched or touching the frame somewhere. If it was working ok previously, think back of all the things that you have done and back track to look at those areas. I had a similar issue on a TT. I removed the taillights to reseal around them. I put the same screws back in the same holes and then it was blowing a taillight fuse. Well, in the end one of the screws had cut a wire. The way that the harness was just laying in the cavity it just happened to be in the way when I reassembled it.
  • the other post is 100% right ,never put a bigger fuse in, start at your connector ,or any place you,ve been working that wire is toucing a ground some where.
  • Unplug it till you get your short fixed in the trailer. Your playing with the TIPM a bad design IMO from 3rd genny Rams. OBTW they run about $500 or more. They only have so many resets then they blow.

Here's a site explaining it in better detail. You can go to any Ram site and find horror stories about this fuse box.

Bottom line is don't be playing with the juice in Rams unless your ready to pay the piper, that goes for adding LED's etc.

Pretty cut and dry, you have a short.

Putting a bigger fuse will ultimately fix your problem by forcing you to buy a NEW TRUCK when the wiring burns up and ignites anything flammable..

Does the fuse only blow when the trailer is connected?

If so then you have a short on the trailer side. Look for chaffed wires, damaged wires on the pigtail plug.

Does the fuse blow even when the trailer IS NOT connected?

If so then you have a short on the vehicle side (pinched wire in the harness)..

What ever you do, never, ever increase the fuse size. The fuse size has been selected to blow BEFORE any wiring damage will occur protecting the wire and ultimately your truck and yourself..
  • I think Dodge started the expensive TIPM BS in '06. I have been wrong before, she tells me.
  • If it blows right away it's a short circuit (wire touching frame as stated). If it blows after a few seconds it's an overload ie. too much current draw.
If you put in a bigger fuse the wiring becomes the fuse!

06 was when you had to start worrying about the TIPM.
  • Check your bulbs, I have seen where an element in a dual element bulb has broken off on one end and shorted to the other side.
