While the $2,000 options are nice, my $300 Champion 3500/4000 performs the same function. The folks in the truck stops or Walmart parking lots never know the difference.
While you are absolutely correct in stating that Walmart and truck stop patrons may not know the difference between open frame and inverter generators the OP's electronic devices will know the difference in the type of power delivered. While I enjoy saving money, I wouldn't enjoy giving any of my electronics the type of power delivered by an open frame generator.
