Nice article on self driving cars.

The link seems to take you to a site that talks about driverless vehicles. I didn't see anything about a 400 mile battery.

Very interesting and encouraging. Not sure about 2030 but it’s coming.

Referring to EV batteries by range in miles is kind of pointless. A battery of a given capacity might give 400 miles of range in a small car and less than 100 in a much bigger delivery van. The spec that is really useful (and that EV manufacturers hold very close to the vest) is capacity in KwH. For example, the Tesla semi was rolled out 2 1/2 years ago and yet its battery capacity is not public knowledge.

Cars sounds correct, majority electric by 2030. Motorhomes, not happening anytime soon. Trucks will be a mixed bag, serious towing trucks that travel a lot will require fuel. Citified grocery getting mall crawlers will be electric.

We would have bought an electric car for the wife as a commuter except they are all tiny and ugly (IMHO) at the moment. Hopefully they won't all be minivan/wannabe SUV snails or cars made for 5'2" buyers.

The interesting thing about the new GM EV battery pack developed with the GM and LG Chem partnership is that it is 40% to 60% cheaper to manufacture and the entire package is self contained including the controllers and all wiring, Just plug in the motor/motors etc!

It's a drop in standalone package and uses 80% less cobalt which is very expensive and mot environmentally friendly and replaced it with aluminum, all individual cell new shapes use their total physical space vs the round cells which only occupy ~75% of the space they take, also can be orientated in any direction even upside down or horizontal, yet has 400 amps battery capacity.

Means the drop in EV battery pack physical size is markedly smaller in size and much less complicated to manufacture vs than before was possible. Also can be recharged at a rate of 10 minutes to give 100 miles of driving. That's an honest real breakthru! Can be made in 400 amp, 600 amp, 800 amp, etc capacity.

To be manufactured at the Lordstown, Ohio idled GM plant here in the USA employing 1100+ Americans, not overseas.

BTW, Aluminum is lighter than cobalt so weight savings gained too plus the weight of so much added conventional wiring required and the needed mountings weights required!!! What's not to like???
