Goose Neck Questions

Do they make a fifth wheel hitch that will go over a goose neck that can handle 24 or 25k LBS 5vr GVW?

We are looking at some 450's and most of them tend to have goose neck hitches. I'm fairly ignorant to the whole process but my first thought is that its generally not a trivial thing to swap out a goose neck for an in bed fifth wheel hitch.

So I started looking at Goose neck to 5vr hitches and while I've found some they are for lesser weights.

Anyone have suggestions to one that might handle that weight? Can you swap a goose neck for a fiver hitch fairly easily on a 450? Any other option?
  • Thank you everyone for educating me a little. Thanks for that link Jerem0621 as well.
  • My 2014 Ram has the 5th wheel prep package. I had no trouble mounting a Reese 21k hitch or a ball for Gooseneck towing. Like previously mentioned, I also have pop in plugs that gives me a smooth truck bed when the hutch is removed.
  • If you are looking at a new truck, Ford has a factory hitch prep package available. It is underbed mount so that no rails are in the bed. It will accept the Reese Elite 18K or 25K hitch. And will also accept some others such as B&W, Pullrite, etc. Set the hitch in place dropping 4 pins thru the bed holes, latch the 4 pins in place, and go. Release the pins and remove the hitch for a flat bed.
And it also has a center hole for a gooseneck ball if you have any reason to pull a gooseneck trailer.
All holes are covered with plastic "pucks" when hitch is not installed to give a clean bed appearance.
  • Ford sells a hitch prep package and a 5th wheel package which contains the actual hitch which attaches to the gooseneck connection similar to B&W hitch setup. Can't find a rating but I'd imagine it would be close to what the truck is rated to pull.
  • Not sure but there are only 4,6 or 8 bolts holding aplate to the frame. Some have an added stringer next to the frame. Most come standard hole configuration. but I've only seen 20000 lb adapters.
