- F350muleExplorerI understand the reasoning some would do it, I already have a gooseneck and such, but I have pulled both and to me not much difference except I used more fuel with the gooseneck. As far as the cg being off with a bumper pull, well that's what a weight distributing hitch is for as well as air bags. As I said if you already have the tools, use 'em.
- BedlamModeratorI prefer to keep my toys under cover and out of sight while traveling plus I can keep smaller items securely stashed away. A setup like that works well for over sized loads. If I had larger toys, I could see myself using something similar as long as it had an enclosed shop.
- pjay9ExplorerI am just amazed at all the inovations folks will come up with to fit the style of doing what they do...so why do we have so many running it down? Some folks probably didn't like that I towed a big ugly alloy boat from the PNW around in FL where all the boats are pastel and plastic, do I care...it fits what I want to do and I am not causing conflict for someone else. I never had any parking issues in those nine weeks on the road, but of course I didn't expect to park in front of the door either...the walk did me good. So stop with the belittling and praise the guy or gal for using what works for them. Maybe come up with a better idea or something you can share. Maybe some of us will think your nuts for doing that, but it is yours...and I'll ask you why you did it that way, might fit somethin I want to do. If you can't say something nice or constructive, don't say it you'll be a better person in my thinking! Have a nice day! I used to hate that saying but now I smile and respond same to you!
IT WORKS!!!!
Mad, thx for posting! Sorry if I hijacked this, I just don't understand the attitude...I chat with folks that pull TT 5ers, GN, FB, toads, all sorts when on the road...actually they approach me most of the time because they saw me do something and asked how I set that up, they'd like to do it for their TT or whatever...it is all FUN!!! Even big rig guys have checked my rig. ALL FUN!!! - pjay9Explorer

Thanks for the picture. I've been wanting to color match my truck to my boat and that truck's paint job is a way I might be able to do it.
Now that would look cool! I need to post a new pic of my rig as all the maroon vinyl is off boat. All silver now...don't know how I will treat the TC after the rebuild...no decal swishes for sure...maybe some ghost USA flag on TC in silver...who knows it is only money! - Wanderin_foolExplorerI guess it must work for him. No negative comments here.
- SugarHillCTDExplorerAll the disadvantages of a TC (small living space inside).
All the disadvantages of a 5th or a TT (try parking that in a large town or city).
No thanks. We did a part of that with a 24' TT and were limited where we could park for a lunch break and maneuvering in some gas stations was a PITA.
JMHO - languiduckExplorerI understand that isn't the norm around here, but a lot of my friends do this and there may come a day I also change over to a gooseneck and mount the TC on it. For someone who wants to haul a Jeep or rock crawler on a trailer (or anything really) this is a good option over spending a******ton of money on one of those super hitches and a truss. It also frees up a little bed space for stuff.
This really isn't doing anything more eccentric that someone using an F450/550 and permanently mounting the TC on a flat bed and pulling a trailer around now is it? - Dennis_M_MExplorerAlso a lot cheaper than a big old toy hauler. Maybe he already had the gooseneck, might even use it when he is not camping. Probably had the truck camper as well. Looks like smart use of what you have with minimal investment.
- kohldadExplorer IIIGN/FW tows a lot better than a tag along trailer.
Can hook up and go in about five minutes, two if converted to FW. Great for loading everything the night before when you have to use the tow vehicle as a daily driver.
Much higher capacity with the GN trailer.
Only negative is pulling an extra 3,000# which is the weight difference between GN and Tag along.
I came close to doing it myself. We had the GN so would have saved the $2k for a 16' trailer. Didn't because couldn't afford to tie up the GN, but mainly because my Scrambler would have fit, but with only a couple inches to spare which meant I had to unload the Scrambler to get into the camper. - Super_DaveExplorerThanks for the picture. I've been wanting to color match my truck to my boat and that truck's paint job is a way I might be able to do it.
