I hope we're not going to get into this torque vs hp thing again. The two are inextricably linked by virtue of RPM. The gearing makes up the difference. Let's not beat a dead horse again.
I'd give the nod right now for the quiet and cost of the gas engine. Speaking for myself, I can't stand the smell of diesel burning, so not likely I'll ever own one unless I have a full-time, high towing need.
