Is anybody Full timing in their little A frame campers ?

I have not yet decided which A frame to get... the Aliner or the Chalet.
i do plan to be spending months on end in it later in the year.

i guess i'll be sort of full timing it for about 6 months.

I'll get the larger Aliner expedition or the Chalet XL 1935.
but still.... these will be small spaces compared to larger travel trailers. BUT..... i like the folding A frames.... thats my choice.

so... just thought i would ask if anyone is actually full timing in
them.
thanks
  • I lived in an ALiner Expedition for 3 months with 3 dogs and 4 cats in the wilds of Utah.

Go figure - I'm nuts. But it was fun, and the cats really enjoyed it as I had an outside mesh tent they hung out in during the day when it was nice and wtached the ground squirrels. I fixed it up so they could go through the hatch door and into the tent. But to do this full-time, one would need a break once in awhile, like renting a house or something for a month now and then. But sure, it can be done, and the Aliner and foldups make travel easy as they don't have much wind-resistance and don't cost a lot in extra gas to tow. I like all the windows and the feeling you're close to the outdoors.
  • Hey gheicher.... thanks for the links

Bumpy... i know something like the Ascend would have more room .... but an A frame is my choice.
  • Never known anyone to full-time in an A-frame but there are those who have taken extended trips in an Aliner - see Sandi’s Aliner & Route 66.

I added a cassette toilet to my Aliner which makes it much more convenient for both during traveling and at nighttime - see Aliner mod. New Aliners have this as an option.
  • you have a pickup that supposedly would tow a small hard sided TT with more storage, a better bath/shower, etc. I'd much rather live in my Ascend A171RD than any A frame.

  • thanks for your comments. i dont have any other home at the moment. my stuff is in a 5ft by 10 ft. storage locker. lol i dont really have any furniture just
books and things for the kitchen that i will unpack someday when i decided where
    i want to live permanently.

thats why i want to get a little A frame.... for the times i am not staying with my elderly mother. i come up here to be with her 4 months out of the year as its too hot back down in the desert.

so i guess i couldnt really call it full timing.... it would be part timing but
not having a place to go back to... it would be kind of full timing for me.

i do have a pick up so i will have plenty of space to put things i need to take.
but actually....i live SO sparely that i wont really require that much beyond
my obsessive need for a few important cooking appliances.

thanks again for your patience in answering my questions on all this stuff.
  • I've never owned an A frame and I have never full timed.

I don't see why you can't do it, there are people living on the street in cardboard boxes full time.

Go for it while you can and consider it an adventure. I'm sure you will enjoy the experience. You don't know what life will hand you tomorrow.
  • I have met some Aliner part-timers. They travel about 6 months at a time.

Full time means 100% of the time living in your RV and having no other home. I don't know any Aliner owners doing that.

I know of some people who fulltime in 13' Scamp trailers, with the body being 10' long by 6'8" wide. The Expedition or XL series are larger than that. Although the Scamp has upper cupboards for storage, whereas the folders' storage is all down low. But yes, with good organizational skills and packing light, it can be done. If you tow with a minivan or a pickup with a cap, you'll have a lot of extra space there for stuff.

I know of more than one that are full timing in Casita's, which of course, are also small.

Here is a link to a well known blogger that does so: RV Sue

We camp hosted with one woman that was in a Casita. She loved it.

  • I have not heard of anyone full timing in an a-frame for a few years now, but it has been done.

Several take trips lasting several months, up to 5 or 6. Ourselves, a month at a time is about it...for now. We still have a sticks and bricks to take care of. :)
