Liability Insurance on travel trailers

We search different policies including our car insurance company. The biggest differences were the amount of liability coverage and fix replacement cost vs. pro-rated depreciated cost replacement.

The insurance we chose was not the cheapest for sure but the trailer is insured for a fixed value for the next four years. Since we are new to pulling one of these barns down the road and expect to travel a lot, it seemed like a good choice.

Insurance is a complete waste of money...until you need it. The liability insurance portion would also come into play if someone got injured inside your RV, not just if the landing gear collapsed on top of a child.
Invite the neighbor over for a drink and when they are leaving the steps collapse and that neighbor breaks their hip. That is what the liability insurance is for.

Does seem high. I have an umbrella policy for liability so only need to carry a minimum on vehicles/house policy. For our trailer I pay $93/year for liability, bodily injury, comp, collision with a $2,000 deductible. Use the same company as the rest of our insurance.

My TV insurance company charges double what I am being quoted by insurance companies that specialize in RV insurance. The main difference being that my current plan includes liability/bodily injury insurance. They are charging me over $500/year for insurance on a travel trailer that cost less than twenty thousand dollars with $1,000 deductible on collision and comprehensive. Seems a little high to me, so I started shopping.

The whole reason you want liability insurance. Some idiot bumps his knee on the A-frame, then sues you claiming that your TT was parked 6" to far out in the road.

Far too many law suits where I sue you because I'm stupid. Unfortunately stupid wins an awful lot of them nuisance suits.

I have been researching and comparing insurance for my travel trailer and find the biggest difference being when one company includes Liability and Property damage and the other does not. My feeling is that the trailer is not likely to inflict damage on others when it is parked in a campground and is covered by the truck insurance when being towed.

Check your policy for coverage if some one fell while walking down/up your steps when your parked in the campground.

Bought the TT, bought the insurance, hope I never have to find out how good the insurance policy is.

You can "what if" yourself into a paranoid state. You have to ask yourself how likely this sort of problem really is.
