Linoleum ripped during winter storage

I went to inspect our TT the other day and when I walked into the kitchen, I fsaw the linoleum ripped, from the fridge to the kitchen table! No sign of water anywhere, just ripped and curled up. Crazy.

We have a slide out...if I wanted to put in laminate flooring, would that pose a problem for the slide out? Will self-adhesive tiles stay down?

Thanks!
  • It's from freezing and shrinking. If the break is straight I would just get a nice thin aluminum threshold to hide it. Unless you want to change it out. Laminate flooring may be to thick.
  • Very common and even worse of a problem with boats. You could probably turn it in to your ins.
I don't let my TT freeze just for this reason.
  • Some slides move straight in/out on one level, others dip up/down.
You need to see how much clearance you have between your slide bottom and the interior floor where you walk.
Like everything else, search 'youtube' to see (how to) videos. Many rv people on there posted to show others how they did it.
  • Very common issue with rigs from a few years back. Lino in our rigs is the same as in houses that have steady temps. The thermal changes from night to day are too severe and the material expands and contracts at differing rates. In rv's the lino needs to be fully glued down but is instead perimeter glued allowing the expand/stretch issue to cause tears. Either replace the lino or ensure whatever you use has clearance for the slide. BTW if one area ripped....other areas that did not rip may do so next winter so consider a full reno while your at it.

  • I have seen this cracking in brand new campers, still on the lot! What the dealer did... order new lino from factory (warranty), and hired an installer to cut entire area out, to cabinets edge. He then installed the new linoleum, and added 1/4 round on all edges. It looked factory, and no one would notice.
